A tragic incident at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas resulted in the death of Capt. John Robertson, an Air Force instructor pilot.
While performing ground operations in a T-6A Texan II aircraft on Monday, Robertson was unexpectedly ejected from the plane, sustaining severe injuries.
Despite efforts to save him, Robertson succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning.
Col. Mitchell J. Cok, the acting wing commander, expressed condolences to Robertson’s family and colleagues, highlighting his value as an Airman and instructor pilot, ABC News has reported.
Immediately following the accident, an interim safety board investigation was launched, with a full Air Force Safety Investigation Board expected to convene later in the week.
The details of the incident will be disclosed upon completion of the investigation.
