‘Mysterious’ monolith appears in Nevada desert

A “mysterious” monolith has appeared near Gass Peak in the Nevada desert, according to Las Vegas police.

The reflective object was discovered by the Las Vegas search and rescue team over the weekend at the nearly 7,000-foot summit, and authorities are unsure how it got there.

In a social media post, the police highlighted the unusual find and advised hikers to prepare adequately by checking weather forecasts and bringing essential supplies like water, food, a light source, and a fully charged phone.

Gass Peak, the highest point in the Las Vegas Range, is located about 20 miles north of Las Vegas. This sighting follows a trend of similar monoliths appearing globally in recent years, CBS News has reported.

In 2020, monoliths were found in Utah, Romania, Colorado, and California, often speculated to be art installations reminiscent of the monolith in the film “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Earlier this year, a 10-foot-tall monolith appeared mysteriously on a hill in Wales.
