Pilot dies aboard Turkish Airlines flight, forcing emergency landing in New York

A Turkish Airlines flight from Seattle to Istanbul made an emergency landing in New York after the 59-year-old captain, İlçehin Pehlivan, lost consciousness mid-flight.

Despite medical intervention, he could not be revived and died before the Airbus A350 landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport around 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

The co-pilot managed the emergency landing, and arrangements were made for passengers to continue their journey, CNN has reported.

Pehlivan had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007, and a recent health check showed no issues. The airline expressed deep condolences to his family and colleagues.
