Susan Rice: Trump’s reported calls with Putin appear illegal

Former UN ambassador Susan Rice criticized former President Trump after reports claimed he has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin at least seven times since leaving office, potentially violating the Logan Act.

The law prohibits unauthorized negotiations with foreign governments in conflict with the U.S.

Rice pointed out the irony, as Trump previously accused John Kerry of violating the same law for speaking with Iranian officials.

Trump’s campaign denied the claims, but Trump has often praised his relationship with Putin and urged Republicans to block military aid to Ukraine, The Hill has reported.

The Logan Act is rarely enforced, with no prosecutions in over a century.
