Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Chinese President Xi Jinping held their first in-person talks in Lima, agreeing to strengthen “mutually beneficial” and “stable” relations despite differences.
Ishiba expressed concern over China’s aggressive military actions, while Xi emphasized Japan addressing historical issues and Taiwan’s status.
Both leaders agreed to continue meetings, including reciprocal foreign minister visits, and to resume high-level economic dialogue.
Ishiba urged Xi to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens in China, Kydod News has reported.
They also discussed resuming Japanese seafood exports to China, with Xi reaffirming a gradual restart, though timing remains undecided.
