An investigation into a surge of alleged drone sightings in New Jersey, New York, and nearby states has found that most reports were linked to routine air traffic.

Officials confirmed many sightings were misidentified manned aircraft near busy airports like Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia.

Of the 5,000 tips received, fewer than 100 warranted further investigation.

No evidence of criminal activity, security threats, or foreign involvement has been identified, but the inquiry continues.

Some local officials have expressed skepticism, calling for greater transparency or action, Newsweek has reported.

The Pentagon noted sightings near military sites but found no evidence of malicious intent.
