According to neighbors who spoke to WSOC-TV, a man in North Carolina became enraged after a basketball rolled into his yard and began firing his gun, injuring a 6-year-old girl and her parents on Tuesday night.
Witnesses reported that the shooter ran up and down the street, firing his gun until he ran out of bullets. The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Robert Louis Singletary and is considered “armed and dangerous.”
Kinsley White, the young girl who was seriously wounded, has been released from the hospital, while her father, William White, remains hospitalized, Yahoo News reported.
In an interview with Queen City News, Kinsley said, “He came out with a gun, he started shooting. Hope my daddy is OK.” The Gaston County Police Department is still searching for the suspect.
Her mother, Ashley Hilderbrand, was grazed by a bullet but was treated at the scene.
She told WSOC that the gunman threatened to kill her husband and daughter before chasing and firing at them while William White attempted to shield Kinsley.
Additionally, police reported that a fourth person was shot at but not injured. Singletary is facing multiple charges, including four counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
