Israel strikes a suburb of Lebanon’s capital for the first time since the ceasefire

Israel launched an airstrike on Beirut’s suburbs for the first time since a November 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah, targeting a drone storage site after rockets were fired from southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah denied responsibility and reaffirmed its commitment to the truce.

No casualties were immediately reported, but 18 people have been killed in Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon in the past week.

The attack follows Israel’s renewed offensive in Gaza, NPR has reported.

Lebanese and French leaders condemned the strikes as ceasefire violations, with President Macron urging Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
