Trump and Putin hold call, discuss Iran-Israel tensions, Ukraine war

Former President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a 50-minute phone call on Saturday to discuss the escalating Israel-Iran conflict and Ukraine peace efforts.

Trump said Putin called to wish him a happy birthday and to talk primarily about Iran, which both leaders agreed poses a serious threat.

Putin condemned Israel’s strikes on Iran and warned of dangerous escalation, while Trump said the conflict should end—alongside Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Putin offered Russia’s help in mediating U.S.-Iran nuclear talks and shared updates on prisoner swaps with Ukraine, CBS News has reported.

Both leaders expressed interest in renewed diplomacy on Iran and Ukraine.
