Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a new law allowing citizens over 60 to voluntarily enlist in the military during martial law, provided they are deemed medically fit and receive approval from military commanders.
The move aims to address severe manpower shortages reported in late 2024, particularly in technical and support roles.
Contracts for these recruits will end once martial law is lifted, the Express has reported.
Meanwhile, Russia is also changing its draft policy, proposing year-round conscription amid heavy wartime losses, shifting from its traditional two-wave system.
