A federal judge has temporarily barred the FBI from reviewing electronic devices seized from the Virginia home of Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson.
The ruling orders the government to preserve but not examine the materials until the court can further review the case.
Natanson and the Post argued the seizure of her phone, laptops, and other devices threatens press freedom and confidential newsgathering.
The judge has given the government until Jan. 28 to respond and scheduled a hearing for early next month, NBC News has reported.
Press freedom advocates called the search unprecedented and warned it poses serious First Amendment concerns.
