Trump drops tariff threat, says he won’t use force to take Greenland

President Donald Trump has abandoned his threat to impose tariffs on European countries opposing his plan to take control of Greenland and ruled out using force to seize the territory.

The decision came after Trump met with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Davos, where they agreed on a “framework” for future cooperation on Greenland and the Arctic, though details were not disclosed.

The framework reportedly focuses on security, minerals, and preventing Russia and China from gaining influence in the region.

Trump had previously threatened tariffs on Denmark and other European nations unless Greenland was sold to the U.S., raising tensions within NATO, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Denmark has consistently rejected the sale, warning that any attempt to seize the island by force would jeopardize the alliance.
