Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin announced plans Wednesday to deploy 5,408 satellites for a high-speed communications network called TeraWave, targeting data centers, governments, and businesses.
Deployment is set to begin in late 2027, with the network aiming to deliver data speeds up to 6 Tbps and serve about 100,000 customers.
The constellation will use optical communications and is designed to support large-scale AI data processing, which requires immense computing power and energy on Earth.
TeraWave adds to Bezos’ space ventures, complementing Amazon’s Project Kuiper (formerly Leo), a 3,200-satellite network for internet services, NBC News has reported.
The move positions Blue Origin in the growing low-Earth-orbit satellite market dominated by Elon Musk’s Starlink, which already has roughly 10,000 satellites.
