U.S. gave Ukraine and Russia June deadline to reach peace agreement, Zelenskyy says

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the U.S. has set a June deadline for Ukraine and Russia to reach a deal to end the nearly four‑year war, with Washington likely to pressure both sides if progress stalls.

The next round of trilateral talks is expected to take place in the U.S., likely in Miami, and Ukraine has confirmed its participation.

Russia launched over 400 drones and around 40 missiles targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure, forcing nuclear power plants to reduce output and causing widespread power outages.

Zelenskyy said no agreement was reached on key issues, including the Donbas region and management of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, and expressed skepticism over a proposed free economic zone compromise, NPR has reported.

The U.S. has proposed a ceasefire banning strikes on energy facilities, but previous short-term pauses were violated by Russia, adding to Kyiv’s challenges during winter.
