A grand jury declined the Justice Department’s attempt to indict six Democratic lawmakers over a video advising service members they have the right to refuse illegal orders.
Prosecutors had sought charges under a federal law prohibiting interference with the loyalty or discipline of the armed forces, according to reports.
The video, titled “Don’t Give Up the Ship,” featured Sens. Elise Slotkin and Mark Kelly and four House Democrats, all military veterans, and addressed concerns about certain military actions under President Donald Trump.
Trump criticized the lawmakers, calling their actions “seditious,” though he later said he was not threatening execution, the USA Today has reported.
Slotkin welcomed the grand jury’s decision, calling it a victory for free speech and the rule of law.
