Astronomers have discovered a colossal ring of galaxies, dubbed the Big Ring, which spans 1.3 billion light-years and challenges current cosmological models. The structure, observed by a team led by Alexia Lopez from the University of Central Lancashire, was presented at the American Astronomical Society meeting and published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. Unlike known cosmic structures, the Big Ring and another … Continue reading A Giant Structure in Space Challenges Our Understanding of The Universe

The sun has recently experienced a resurgence with a powerful X-class solar flare, the strongest type of flare, originating from sunspot region AR3869. This flare peaked at 11:57 p.m. EDT on October 23, causing shortwave radio blackouts in Australia and Southeast Asia. It was accompanied by a coronal mass ejection (CME), which could lead to geomagnetic storms and stunning auroras if it strikes Earth. However, … Continue reading Watch sun unleash major X-flare in epic solar eruption

Chinese startup Deep Blue Aerospace plans to launch suborbital tourism flights in 2027, developing its Nebula-1 reusable rocket. After a VTVL test in November, it aims for an orbital flight in 2025. Three NASA astronauts—Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, and Jeanette Epps—along with Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin, returned to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday after seven months in orbit. Their return was delayed by two weeks due to weather issues related to Hurricane Milton. Upon exiting the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, the crew underwent medical exams and was taken to a local medical facility … Continue reading ISS astronauts hospitalized after SpaceX splashdown

On the night of October 21, a bright fireball was observed streaking across the skies over Lake Erie, visible from parts of the U.S. and Canada. The American Meteor Society received over 550 reports of the meteor, which was tracked moving from northeast of Cleveland, Ohio, to just west of Erie, Pennsylvania, around 7:00 p.m. EDT. Witnesses reported seeing a light green object with yellow … Continue reading Spooky fireball blazes across Lake Erie

On October 23, SpaceX successfully launched 23 Starlink internet satellites from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off after a weather-related postponement from its originally scheduled date. Approximately eight minutes post-launch, the rocket’s first stage returned to Earth, landing on the drone ship “A Shortfall of Gravitas,” marking its 18th launch and landing. The upper stage continued to carry … Continue reading SpaceX launches 23 Starlink broadband satellites to orbit from Florida

The U.S. Space Force is monitoring space debris following the explosion of the Intelsat 33e satellite, manufactured by Boeing. Launched in 2016 and providing communications across Europe, Asia, and Africa, the satellite experienced “an anomaly” on Saturday. Despite efforts to repair it, the satellite exploded on Monday, leaving some customers without power or communication services. Intelsat is collaborating with third-party providers to mitigate disruptions and … Continue reading Boeing satellite explodes in space

SpaceX has received $733.6 million from the U.S. Space Force for two task orders covering eight launches, including seven for the Space Development Agency (SDA) and one for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The SDA launches will contribute to the development of the Transport Layer, a satellite constellation aimed at providing secure military data and connectivity. The NRO mission will take place from Vandenberg Space … Continue reading US Space Force awards SpaceX $730 million to launch at least 9 national-security missions

Axiom Space and Prada have unveiled the design of the AxEMU spacesuit for NASA’s Artemis III mission at the International Astronautical Congress. The collaboration blends Prada’s expertise in materials and design with Axiom’s engineering to create a next-gen spacesuit for lunar exploration. The AxEMU suit, featuring advanced technologies for flexibility, safety, and temperature protection, will allow astronauts to explore the moon’s south pole, Axiom Space … Continue reading Axiom Space, Prada Unveil Spacesuit Design for Moon Return

New research indicates that photosynthesis might occur beneath the surface of dusty ice at Mars’ mid-latitudes, where conditions could allow for liquid water and sunlight. While the study doesn’t claim that life exists on Mars, it identifies areas to explore for signs of life. The research suggests that a thick layer of ice can protect subsurface water from harmful ultraviolet radiation while allowing enough sunlight … Continue reading Alien life could lurk on Mars beneath protective ice, study suggests

The ESA’s upcoming Ramses mission aims to study the asteroid Apophis, which will make a remarkably close pass to Earth in 2029, coming within geostationary orbit and visible to the naked eye. ESA’s Space Safety Program head, Holger Krag, emphasized that this mission is crucial for planetary defense, targeting asteroids 30 meters and larger for warnings and deflection, with Apophis fitting this profile. Project director … Continue reading Europe makes moves to rendezvous with asteroid Apophis in 2029

n an impressive display of capability, SpaceX conducted four launches in less than 48 hours across three states, significantly advancing the future of space exploration. The first launch on Sunday featured the Starship rocket taking off from Texas, with its first-stage booster successfully returning to the launch pad, caught by the tower’s metal arms. CEO Elon Musk hailed it as a “big step towards making … Continue reading SpaceX pulls off historic achievement, launching four rockets in less than 40 hours

NASA has successfully launched its Europa Clipper spacecraft, the largest it has ever built for a planetary mission, atop a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The spacecraft has separated from the rocket, deployed its solar arrays, and is now on a 1.8 billion-mile journey to Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, expected to take about five and a half years. … Continue reading NASA’s Europa Clipper mission is on its way to Jupiter

The International Space Station (ISS) is set to retire in 2030, prompting private companies to develop commercial orbital laboratories. At the 75th International Astronautical Congress in Milan, U.S.-based Vast announced its proposal for Haven-2, a successor to the ISS. Researchers using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have studied an infant galaxy just 700 million years after the Big Bang, providing insights into how star formation in early galaxies differs from today. Observed as part of the JWST Advanced Extragalactic Survey (JADES), this galaxy showed a dense core with star concentrations similar to modern galaxies but exhibited active star formation farther from the core, … Continue reading James Webb Space Telescope spies ‘inside-out’ star formation in ancient galaxy

After nearly a year in orbit, the US Space Force’s X-37B is set to perform its first aerobraking maneuver during its seventh orbital test vehicle mission (OTV-7). This technique uses atmospheric drag to slow the spacecraft and alter its orbit while conserving fuel.
