Four dead bodies were discovered in Cancun’s hotel zone near the beach, as announced by authorities on Monday.

There is currently no information on the identities or nationalities of the victims. This announcement follows the shooting of a U.S. tourist in the leg in the nearby town of Puerto Morelos less than a week ago.

Initially, prosecutors reported the discovery of three bodies in a lot close to one of Cancun’s beachside hotels on Kukulkan Boulevard.

Later on, they confirmed that a fourth body was found in the undergrowth on the same lot, bringing the total number of victims to four, CBS News reported.

The Fiesta Americana hotel was shown to have local police, the Mexican National Guard, and a vehicle from the attorney general’s office in photos published by Reuters.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings in the Quintana Roo state on the Caribbean coast, according to prosecutors.

While the cause of death is under investigation, Reuters and AFP reported that the four victims were shot to death.
