
According to Tunisia’s TAP news agency, the death toll in the gun attack on a synagogue on the Tunisian island of Djerba has now reached five. The victims include two Jewish pilgrims and three Tunisian police guards.
Tragically, a police guard who had been previously hospitalized succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, as reported by a medical official quoted by TAP.
Four other members of the security forces, one of whom is in critical condition, remain hospitalized in Djerba, the Associated Press reported.
The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The civilian victims have been identified by Israeli and Tunisian authorities, as well as the family, as cousins.
Aviel Haddad, aged 30, held dual Tunisian and Israeli citizenship, while Benjamin Haddad, aged 42, was of French nationality.
Additionally, four civilians sustained injuries, as stated by the Tunisian Interior Ministry. The attacker was subsequently neutralized by security guards.
