A Tennessee man has entered a guilty plea for brandishing an AK-47 rifle at Little Caesars employees due to the delayed preparation of his $6 pepperoni pizza, according to official records.
Charles Doty, aged 64, accepted a plea agreement last month, admitting to his dangerous actions at a Knoxville restaurant.
Doty, initially facing multiple felony charges, is set to receive his sentence on September 29 after pleading guilty to four counts of aggravated assault.
Under this “blind plea,” the specifics of the sentence’s duration and nature will be determined solely by a Criminal Court judge, as explained by a spokesperson for the prosecution, The Smoking Gun reported.
The incident unfolded when Doty became furious upon learning that his pizza would require ten minutes to be prepared.
He demanded a complimentary serving of Little Caesars’ “Crazy Bread” and briefly exited the restaurant, which was located approximately five miles from his home.
Upon his return to Little Caesars, Doty was armed with an AK-47, which he initially pointed at a female employee, who happened to be on her first day on the job, while insisting on receiving his order.
When another employee attempted to leave the establishment, Doty inquired, somewhat aggressively, about their destination.
Fearing the situation, the employee retreated to a back room and dialed 911 for assistance.
In an effort to encourage Doty to depart, a female customer who had already received her order offered him her own pepperoni pizza.
Doty then made a hasty exit from the restaurant before officers from the Knoxville Police Department arrived at the scene.
Subsequently, Doty was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.
