The Trump administration has launched a new “self-deportation” program offering $1,000 and travel assistance to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the U.S. via a new app called CBP Home.
The initiative aims to cut deportation costs and reduce detentions, with DHS stating the payout is only issued after confirmed departure.
Critics warn the program is misleading and could harm future legal reentry prospects, The Guardian has reported.
The move reflects Trump’s broader crackdown on immigration and the rebranding of a Biden-era asylum app to now facilitate exits instead of entries.
