U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer rejects mounting calls to resign

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he will continue “getting on with governing” despite growing pressure from within the Labour Party to resign following poor local election results and multiple cabinet departures.

Four cabinet ministers resigned on Tuesday, adding to earlier exits and increasing calls for Starmer to step down, while more resignations are reportedly possible.

Around a fifth of Labour MPs have now called for him to quit, though they remain divided over who should replace him.

Starmer acknowledged responsibility for the election results but insisted his government must continue focusing on delivering its agenda, CBS News has reported.

While internal rules allow for a leadership challenge, no unified effort has yet triggered a formal contest against him.
