A bright fireball was seen streaking across the night sky over multiple U.S. states, including Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Texas.
The American Meteor Society reported that the event occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. CDT on Sunday and generated sightings from at least 15 states across the Midwest and South.
Witnesses described the object breaking apart before it disappeared from view.
Experts believe the phenomenon was a meteor rather than space debris, UPI has reported.
Scientists are now analyzing its trajectory to determine whether any fragments reached the ground.
