A private jet traveling from Los Cabos, Mexico, to Austin, Texas, crashed onto a Texas motorway near Laredo after reporting mechanical problems.

Bystanders and first responders used tools like a shovel and sledgehammer to help free trapped passengers from the wreckage.

One of the six people on board died, while the five survivors were hospitalized in stable condition.

The crash also struck a vehicle and caused a fire, with smoke and flames seen at the scene and several responders treated for smoke inhalation, the BBC has reported.

Authorities, including the FBI and NTSB, are investigating the incident, which shut down a major highway near Laredo airport.
