Former Rep. Ben McAdams is projected to win the Democratic primary for Utah’s newly redrawn 1st Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ.
McAdams, a moderate who previously served in Congress from 2019 to 2021, defeated progressive state Sen. Nate Blouin and other candidates in the race.
The district, redrawn by court order, is now considered heavily Democratic, giving McAdams a strong chance in the general election.
Democrats have not held a Utah House seat since 2020, while Republicans are expected to retain the state’s other districts, The Hill has reported.
McAdams will face GOP nominee Riley Owen, a Navy Reserve intelligence officer, in November.
