Sausalito officials are reviewing City Manager Elaine Forbes’ position after she was arrested on suspicion of burglary-related charges while on leave from her job.

Forbes, 53, was accused of staying on two boats at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor without permission and faces misdemeanor charges including prowling, unauthorized lodging, and petty theft.

The City Council held a closed session to discuss her job performance and possible next steps following the arrest.

Forbes’ family spokesperson said she is experiencing a mental health crisis and asked the public for compassion while the situation is investigated, NBC Bay Area has reported.

Forbes had recently started as city manager after a long career in public service, including leading the Port of San Francisco.
