A massive fire broke out at Libya’s Zawiya oil refinery after a drone attack targeted a gasoline storage tank, sending thick smoke and flames over the facility.

Officials said there were no serious injuries, though several people were treated for smoke inhalation.

The National Oil Corporation said the refinery has faced multiple drone attacks in recent days and warned that continued strikes could force it to suspend operations and declare force majeure.

The attacks highlight Libya’s ongoing security problems, with rival governments and armed groups continuing to compete for influence despite a 2020 ceasefire, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Libyan officials condemned the attacks and called for stronger protection of vital oil facilities, which are crucial to the country’s economy.
