Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and aide, is expected to travel to Israel and Egypt next week to support a U.S.-backed plan for a permanent end to the war in Gaza.

The visit comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected parts of Trump’s 15-point peace proposal, particularly a plan for Hamas to gradually disarm while Israel withdraws its forces.

Hamas had previously agreed to a preliminary version of the proposal and has said it remains committed despite Israel’s rejection.

Kushner will reportedly be joined by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former Bulgarian minister Nickolay Mladenov, who are also involved with the Board of Peace, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The group plans to meet Israeli, Egyptian and other mediators to address concerns and develop a roadmap toward a demilitarized Gaza and lasting peace.
