A Chinese humanoid robot has reportedly beaten Usain Bolt’s 100-meter world record, highlighting the rapid advances being made in robotics.

The robot, developed by X-Humanoid, completed the race in 9.39 seconds, faster than Bolt’s 9.58-second record set in 2009.

Another Chinese humanoid robot, Tiangong Ultra, reportedly improved the mark even further, recording a time of 9.32 seconds during a trial.

The achievement came during the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, where more than 2,000 robots competed in events including running, soccer, boxing and other challenges, Fox News has reported.

The results showcase China’s growing lead in humanoid robotics, although experts note that robots still face major challenges with balance, control and performing useful tasks in real-world environments.
