Steak ’n Shake, the burger chain founded in 1934, has embraced Bitcoin and now describes itself as a “Bitcoin company.”
The chain began accepting Bitcoin payments in May 2025, and its same-store sales grew 13.8% in the second quarter of 2026.
Steak ’n Shake puts Bitcoin payments into a strategic Bitcoin reserve and gives hourly employees a Bitcoin bonus of 21 cents for every hour worked.
The company says its Bitcoin strategy has helped reduce costs, increase sales and allow it to reinvest in food quality, Pluang has reported.
Steak ’n Shake plans to expand into Latin America, beginning with El Salvador, where Bitcoin has received strong government support.
