A former White House teleprompter operator has been ordered to pay nearly $173,000 after using advance access to President Donald Trump’s speeches to place bets on Kalshi.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission found that Gabriel Perez used confidential information about words and phrases Trump would say in his speeches to make profitable trades.

Perez earned more than $107,500 in profits and must return that money, in addition to paying a $65,000 civil penalty.

He has also been banned from trading on prediction markets for three years as part of a settlement with federal regulators, Fox News has reported.

Perez cooperated with investigators, which led the CFTC to reduce the civil penalty, while Kalshi also assisted in uncovering the prohibited trading.
