House Democrats are criticizing a Republican-led resolution condemning socialism that also includes support for the GOP’s SAVE America Act, a voter ID proposal.
The resolution is scheduled for a House vote and condemns socialist organizations and policies while arguing that socialism should not be adopted in the United States.
Several moderate Democrats tried to remove the SAVE Act language so they could support the anti-socialism measure on a bipartisan basis, but Republicans rejected the changes.
Democrats say Republicans are using the vote to tie them to socialism and make the SAVE Act a major campaign issue ahead of the November elections, Axios has reported.
Some Democrats, including Rep. Jared Golden, have indicated they may still support the resolution despite the partisan language surrounding the voting legislation.
