Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has accused networks linked to Russia and Israel of spreading disinformation during a major migrant crisis in the Spanish territory of Ceuta.

More than 72,000 migrants attempted to cross from Morocco into Ceuta in late July, with at least 70 people reportedly dying during the mass crossings.

Sánchez said the disinformation was being used to attack Spain and Europe and was connected to Spain’s positions on Russia’s war in Ukraine and Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar rejected the accusations as lies, while Russia also denied involvement in spreading disinformation, CBS News has reported.

The crisis has increased pressure on Spain’s immigration policies, with thousands of migrants still in Ceuta and European leaders calling for stronger measures to control illegal migration.
