A Pennsylvania police officer has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after fatally shooting a 22-year-old college student who had mistakenly gone to the wrong house.

The student, Glenwood Pysher IV, was unarmed and had reportedly realized his mistake and was waiting for friends to pick him up when police arrived.

Body-camera footage showed Pysher with his hands raised when Cpl. Sean Farrell shot him twice, according to prosecutors.

Authorities say Farrell had less-lethal options available, including a Taser, but did not use them before firing his weapon, the AP has reported.

Farrell surrendered to authorities and faces a preliminary hearing on September 10 as the investigation into the shooting continues.
