Congress is investigating reports that top-secret F-35 components being shipped from Australia to the United States were rerouted to Hong Kong.
The Pentagon confirmed that some components, including an F-35 canopy containing stealth technology, went missing during the shipment.
Officials are concerned that if the parts reached China, they could potentially be studied or reverse-engineered to reveal sensitive military technology.
The Pentagon and Lockheed Martin say they are working to recover the components, investigate what happened, and strengthen safeguards, Mediaite has reported.
The incident also highlights broader concerns over missing F-35 spare parts, with a 2023 Government Accountability Office report finding that more than one million parts had gone missing over five years.
