Pakistan said it carried out airstrikes on terrorist training sites in Afghanistan, claiming three targets were destroyed and 28 militants were killed.

Afghanistan’s Taliban government disputed the claims, saying the strikes hit civilian homes in Kunar and Paktika provinces and killed three people.

Neither side’s claims about the targets, damage, and casualties could be independently verified.

The strikes followed a suicide bombing and 20-hour gun battle in Pakistan that killed at least 31 people, including 16 police officers, the DW has reported.

The attacks have renewed tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have accused each other of supporting or failing to control militant groups along their shared border.
