The U.S. Senate narrowly rejected a resolution calling for an end to the war with Iran, voting 49-50 on Thursday.

Four Republicans — Thom Tillis, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Rand Paul — joined Democrats in supporting the measure, while John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against it.

The War Powers Resolution would have directed President Donald Trump to remove U.S. troops from hostilities in Iran unless Congress explicitly authorized the war.

The measure was largely symbolic because the concurrent resolution would not have carried the force of law, while the White House has argued that the War Powers Act is unconstitutional, CNBC has reported.

The vote comes amid rising concerns among lawmakers over the war’s economic impact, including higher gas and diesel prices, as Congress prepares for the upcoming midterm elections.
