A Turkish-owned cargo ship carrying grain caught fire and sank in the Black Sea after reportedly being struck by a drone off Romania, killing two crew members and injuring 11 others.
The vessel, the Royad Mammadov, was reportedly travelling from Ukraine’s Izmail port toward Italy when the incident occurred in Romania’s exclusive economic zone.
Romanian authorities have not confirmed who was responsible for the attack or whether a drone caused the fire, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy blamed Russia for what he called a strike by two Russian drones.
Rescue teams evacuated the crew, with injured sailors taken to hospitals in Romania, while authorities continued investigating the incident, Euro News has reported.
The attack adds to growing security concerns in the Black Sea, where drone incidents have increasingly affected commercial shipping and countries including Romania and Turkey.
