California regulators have ordered Robot Entertainment Kombat to stop organizing human-versus-robot fighting events without state approval and proper licensing.
The order follows a September 18 event in San Francisco where social media influencer Frankie LaPenna fought three humanoid robots in a cage.
During the matches, LaPenna was knocked around by the robots but managed to win two of his three fights.
Company CEO Cix Liv publicly shared the cease-and-desist letter but the company continued advertising an upcoming robot fighting event scheduled for October 9 in San Francisco, USA Today has reported.
The dispute centers on whether human-versus-robot fights fall under existing combat sports laws, which require licensing and state oversight for events involving human participants.
