A Texas prosecutor is considering felony assault charges against an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer accused of striking a man with an unmarked SUV during an attempted traffic stop in Houston, leaving him with multiple broken bones.
Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said surveillance video appears to show the officer intentionally running over 48-year-old Miguel Parra-Hernandez, who suffered serious hip and leg injuries and may require several surgeries.
Parra-Hernandez’s attorney said he fled because he did not know who was pursuing him, while ICE acknowledged that he was not the original target of the operation.
Teare accused ICE of refusing to cooperate with the investigation and said the officer allegedly drove away with the vehicle before investigators could examine its data recorder, The Guardian has reported.
The investigation is ongoing, and ICE has denied allegations that the officer intentionally struck the man, calling the accusations false.
