Local fishermen have captured a school shark in southern Argentina, inside which the remains of a man who had gone missing earlier this month seem to have been discovered, the Associated Press reported.
According to Daniela Millatruz, the law enforcement officer overseeing the investigation, the family of 32-year-old Diego Barría were able to identify his remains by a visible tattoo. Local news media reported that Barría was last seen riding his all-terrain vehicle late on February 18th near the coastline of southern Chubut province.
On February 20th, the damaged all-terrain vehicle was discovered on a beach near Rocas Coloradas; however, there was no trace of Barría, prompting an extensive search to locate the father of three, as reported by the AP.
According to Millatruz, two fishermen reported to the coastguard on Sunday morning that they had caught three school sharks in the vicinity of where Barría’s ATV had been discovered. While cleaning the sharks, they discovered human remains inside one of them.
Family members recognized Barría’s remains by a tattoo visible on one of them. Officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Barría’s death.
