On Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) proposed that the Manhattan district attorney be imprisoned, as there is speculation that former President Trump may face charges today for payments made to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.
“A Trump indictment would be a disgusting abuse of power. The DA should be put in jail,” Paul tweeted.
During the weekend, Trump hinted that he might be arrested on Tuesday over the alleged hush-money payments. He criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his office and urged his supporters to protest, raising concerns about potential reactions from his base.
On Monday, barricades were observed being delivered outside the Manhattan Criminal Court, the Hill reported.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office has refused to provide a statement regarding Trump’s assertion that he could be arrested as early as this week.
Rand Paul and other supporters of Trump have criticized the investigation and potential charges as being driven by political motives.
