On Saturday night, a homeless suspect wielding a sword chopped off the hand of a man in California.
Authorities in Riverside, located 55 miles east of Los Angeles, were alerted to the horrifying incident when multiple residents called emergency services at around 10:30 p.m.
They reported finding a severed hand on the sidewalk in a downtown neighborhood, the New York Post reported.
Shortly thereafter, a man who was missing a hand arrived at a local hospital and informed doctors that his injury was a result of an attack by an individual wielding a sword.
The police stated that no arrests had been made yet, and the identity of the suspect was still being investigated by Riverside detectives.
Both the victim, who is in his 60s, and the assailant are homeless, and authorities believe that the sword attack may have been sparked by an ongoing dispute between them.
