A nationwide manhunt ended with the capture of Nicholas Hamlett, accused of killing Steven Douglas Lloyd and using his body to fake his own death in Tennessee.
Last month, Hamlett called 911, claiming he fell off a cliff while fleeing a bear. Authorities, however, found Lloyd’s body, initially identified as Hamlett.
Detectives later confirmed the victim as Lloyd, who had died from blunt-force trauma.
Hamlett, recognized by a hospital employee, was arrested in Columbia, South Carolina, and awaits extradition, USA Today has reported.
Authorities believe Hamlett, with a history of violent crime, befriended and murdered Lloyd to steal his identity.
