Paramilitaries strike Port Sudan for first time, army says

A drone strike by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) hit a military airport in Port Sudan on Sunday, marking the first attack on the military-led government’s de facto capital.

The strike caused limited damage and temporarily closed the airport.

Sudan’s civil war, now in its second year, has killed an estimated 150,000 people and displaced 12 million, creating a massive humanitarian crisis.

The RSF controls western and southern regions, while the army holds the east and north, the BBC has reported.

Despite recent army gains, analysts say a decisive victory remains unlikely. Peace efforts have so far failed.
