A growing number of House Democrats and progressive groups are demanding that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer step down after several Senate Democrats broke ranks to vote for the bipartisan deal reopening the government.
Critics argue that Schumer has failed to unite his caucus and is out of touch with the party’s base, with lawmakers such as Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Seth Moulton, Ro Khanna, and Sylvia Garcia among those calling for his resignation.
Progressive organizations including Indivisible and MoveOn have launched campaigns urging senators to replace him, reflecting wider frustration with his leadership in the Trump-era political climate.
Despite the backlash, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries publicly defended Schumer, praising his efforts during the shutdown, Axios has reported.
For now, Schumer’s position appears secure, as no Senate Democrats have joined the calls for his removal.
