A key Saudi oil pipeline damaged in an attack could remain mostly out of service for three to five weeks while repairs are completed.

The East-West Pipeline is especially important because Saudi Arabia has relied on it to transport oil to the Red Sea after shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted.

The pipeline had been carrying between 2.6 million and 4 million barrels of oil per day before the attack.

The potential loss of that supply has raised concerns about global oil shortages, pushing Brent crude prices above $109 per barrel, the AP has reported.

The disruption comes as Houthi rebels seize additional islands along Red Sea shipping routes, creating further challenges for Saudi Arabia’s oil exports.
