Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned that President Donald Trump’s proposed $5,000 dividend could have significant financial consequences if implemented.

Trump has proposed giving every adult U.S. citizen $5,000 if Republicans win control of both chambers of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.

The proposal has drawn attention because analysts estimate the payments could cost more than $1.2 trillion and substantially increase the federal deficit.

DeSantis raised concerns about the proposal’s potential impact on federal spending and the national debt, Fox Business has reported.
