Begoña Gómez, the wife of Pedro Sánchez, has been formally charged with multiple offenses including embezzlement, corruption, and influence peddling after a two-year investigation.
Judge Juan Carlos Peinado alleges she used her position to gain advantages at Complutense University of Madrid and advance private interests.
Gómez, along with her assistant Cristina Álvarez and businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, denies all wrongdoing.
The case stems from a complaint by Manos Limpias, which Sánchez claims is politically motivated, The Guardian has reported.
The charges add to mounting legal pressures around Sánchez’s circle, though he maintains confidence that his wife will be cleared.
