Passenger robot delays Southwest flight out of Oakland

A humanoid robot named Bebop caused a nearly hour-long delay on a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to San Diego after airline staff had to determine how to transport it.

The robot, used for entertainment and events, was being shipped by its operator after a Bay Area appearance.

Because its carrying case was too heavy to check, the company bought it a ticket and brought it onboard.

Southwest initially treated the robot as an oversized carry-on and worked to find a safe way to store it, NBC Bay Area has reported.

The flight eventually departed after the robot’s battery was removed and it was secured in a window seat.
