Man Pleads Guilty to Killing 18-Year-Old College Student Who Was Hit by Stray Bullet

Shaquille Taylor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2023 stray-bullet death of 18-year-old Belmont University student Jillian Ludwig in Nashville.

He was sentenced to 38 years in prison after also pleading guilty to aggravated assault in a separate case.

Police said Taylor was firing at a car when a bullet struck Ludwig while she was walking in a nearby park.

Ludwig, a music business student and runner, died shortly after the shooting, and her family delivered emotional statements in court, People.com has reported.

The case also contributed to the passage of “Jillian’s Law,” aimed at improving the handling of defendants found incompetent to stand trial in serious cases.
